Look into these AI-generated people’s eyes and let the nightmares wash over you

When technology is used to make art, sometimes it produces beautiful results. And other times things get a little … strange. A new video going around Twitter shows an eerie girl moving her eyes as a cursor moves around on the screen. The thing is … it’s not a real person in the video.  SEE ALSO: The creepiest videos from the robotics company Google just sold These beautiful and unsettling videos (okay, they’re more than a little creepy) were made by artist and researcher Branislav Ulicny, who created this AI-generated…

Video buffering affects viewer engagement regardless of interest in the content: Study

The quality of video resolution and playback affects viewers engagement with and loyalty to video streaming services, a new study said on Thursday. According to the content delivery network services company Akamai Technologies, viewers disengage with emotive storylines and react negatively to low-quality streaming incidents like buffering regardless of the brand or interest in the content. The research showed that negative emotions increase 16 percent while engagement decreases nearly 20 percent as a result of poor streaming experiences. Nearly 76 percent of participants said they would stop using a service…

Psychologists devise clever trick to make us eat more veggies

Turns out if you call beets “dynamite” and sweet potatoes “zesty,” people actually want to eat their veggies. SEE ALSO: Here’s what happens when you cut out just 10% of meat from your diet A new study published last week in JAMA Internal Medicine from Stanford University’s Psychology Department found that rich, descriptive and delicious labels for vegetables makes them a lot more appealing. The study found that “indulgent” descriptors for vegetables like beets, corn, green beans, zucchini, carrots, and sweet potatoes won over diners at a university cafeteria. We…

MIT researchers develop a new technique which can speed up optical quantum computers

MIT researchers have come up with a new device which gives more control over signals in quantum computers. It is called a “quantum gate”, and allows photons with particular properties to pass through it. The non-eligible photons are reflected back. Previously,  physicists have enabled photon-photon interaction by cooling rare elements at low temperature in recent years. But in the latest issue of Physical Review Letters, researchers from MIT have described a new technique to enable photon-photon interaction at room temperature. According to one of the researchers Dirk Englund, an associate professor of electrical…

A new wireless charging device can charge electric cars and medical implants at close range

Scientists at Stanford University in the US have developed a device that can wirelessly charge a moving object at close range. The technology could one day be used to charge electric cars on the highway, or medical implants and cellphones as you walk nearby. “In addition to advancing the wireless charging of vehicles and personal devices like cellphones, our new technology may untether robotics in manufacturing, which also are on the move,” said Professor Shanhui Fan. According to the study, published in the journal Nature, wireless charging would address a…
